Is It Important To Have A Designated Creative Space?

The New Inspiration That Came When I Got My Couch Back

I cannot express what having a designated space for writing has done for my productivity. Recently, I just pulled my "space" out of storage, so it's been a while since I've had the opportunity to utilize it.

For me, my creative space is this brown loveseat with these huge pillows that I can move around to make everything comfortable. I got it off Facebook Marketplace for a steal and I bought it for the sole reason that I didn't want to do work in my bed.

So far, my creative couch has been with me since the summer of 2018, but most of that time I've moved around a lot and the couch hasn't been accessible to me.

Want to know what my track record is for writing books in that time?

That's right, one.

You know why?

I had access to my couch for six months, which was the perfect amount of time for me to crank out a book.

Go figure!

But the interesting thing for me is the fact that now that I have the couch in a space where I can use it, even just knowing it is there has made me feel more creative and inspired. My dreams are more vivid, I'm more inclined to pull out my laptop and start writing little notes and things.

I'm even inclined to work on other projects that I'm helping friends with.

And the best part is that creative spaces are subjective. If you can only create with a room filled with plants, or a specific song playing on repeat, or a desk facing north, do it! Make your area exactly what you need it to be in order to create things.

You never know what will come out of it!
